Band Members

Lead singer and guitar player Dave Hadfield is a songwriter and professional pilot who lives near Barrie, Ontario. He has been writing original songs about his northern camping experiences for many years. Dave has recorded two CD’s: Northern Breeze and Wilderness Waltz, which have had airplay on CBC. His song “Cry of the Wild” was selected as part of the Canoesongs 2 CD by folk-music producer Paul Mills.Dave continues to write more songs and expand his musical expression. Dave enjoys blending his own songs, traditional celtic and folk tunes and a few popular surprises to keep the audience entertained.

Gerald Levine is the fiddler and mandolin player for the Purveyors.Classical training on violin included playing with the University of Waterloo and the Hart House orchestras. His love of improvisation started in 1975 and has resulted in many musical adventures across Canada, Europe, New Zealand and the Caribbean. He enjoys many musical styles including folk, Celtic, jazz, blues, rock and world music. His enthusiastic renditions of Irish fiddle tunes a sure to get your hands clapping and feet stomping!

Liz Levine is the percussionist and a back-up vocalist for the Purveyors. Liz “dances with her hands” in a variety of ways, sometimes subtle, sometimes adding a driving power to the songs. Liz also has a background in television and theatre, and uses this to entertain and connect. She plays hand-drums and shares a variety of user-friendly instruments with the audience.A trained vocalist, her infectious stage presence and up-front personality adds a wonderful energy-she loves a party!

Backing and solo vocals and additional percussion are provided by Maggie Torelli – singing has been her passion since age two! She lives in Barrie, Canada where she has trained under several vocal teachers. She enjoys a variety of music and is thrilled with the Purveyors dynamic sound. Her high energy and enthusiasm really get a crowd involved. She says: “Come and see us and have a blast!”

Stuart Steinhart is the Purveyors bass-player extrordinaire. A highly regarded jazz musician and recording engineer, he has appeared on and produced many award-winning albums. With a strong background in the study of music, theory and history, together with a personal passion for practice and creative musical experimentation, Stuart has successfully cultivated his own musical style like a fine vintage wine. The Purveyors and the audience are fortunate that he also enjoys Celtic and Folk music!

Sound man Andrew Strauss is the important “6th Purveyor” – always enthusiastic and helpful with setup and sound.When the Purveyors play Maritime music, the traditional jigs and reels, and the rollicking ballads of the British Isles they all have an enormous amount of fun. It’s always a memorable, high-energy night.
